Chapter 1:
In this chapter, the apostle opens what will be his main theme throughout the letter: to encourage the Jewish Christians towards a constancy and perseverance in the doctrine of the gospel. His argument towards this perseverance is taken from the one who is the author of the gospel, the promised Messiah, who is the Son of God. Persevere in this doctrine, because the one who delivered it is the promised one and the Son of God.
In this chapter, the Messiah is described in two ways.
1.Absolutely, that is, what he is in his person and offices (as what he has done for the church)
2.Comparatively, with respect unto other beings who have been revealers of the minds and will of God, especially insisting on his superiority over angels.
